What is great about Sherwood

Over the past few decades elected officials have strategically positioned Sherwood for smart growth while enhancing a highly sought after family community.

The Result

One of Oregon’s most desirable communities with a nationally accredited police department, extensive network of parks and recreation, library high in resources, great schools, strong partnerships, quaint Old Town, wonderful Community Arts Center, vast array of local shopping and the framework for professional light industrial employment enhancing our tax base: this leadership history keeps streets safe, kids employed, value of homes strong and our future as secure as our history.

What you will get from Renee Brouse

As a City councilor, I will strive to maintain quality of life philosophies and practices founded by generations of volunteer elected servants.  My work will be committed to guaranteeing our local police continue to serve and protect all our friends and neighbors, finding ways to bring employment opportunities to balance a tax system that will maintain Sherwood’s livability, help businesses thrive and continue dedicated service to the community.

Meet Renee

Renee is originally from the Hoosier state.  She and her family (her husband, Rob and two kids, Brittany and Brandon) moved from Indiana to Oregon in November of 2006.  Renee had worked for the YMCA of DeKalb County in Auburn, IN and was selected to serve as the Executive Director of the Sherwood Regional Family YMCA in Sherwood.  Renee spent 21 years in the YMCA movement before leaving in February of 2017.

Renee now serves as the Executive Director of Good Neighbor Center, a family homeless shelter located in Tigard and serving Tigard, Tualatin and Sherwood. Prior to the non-profit sector, she ran two restaurants and also worked as a legal aid at a local law firm in her hometown.

Renee graduated with a BA from Indiana University with a major in Political Science and Spanish with an emphasis on international studies.  She has also earned several credits towards her MBA from Kennedy Western University prior to leaving Indiana for Oregon.

Renee's core values are her belief system, responsibility, service and empathy.  These values are implemented in all that she does.  Her passion is to provide a lasting impact by making a difference through service.

Renee is heavily involved in Rotary locally, the district level and internationally.  She believes in supporting local business thus has been involved with the local Chamber of Commerce having served as president and helping with the Annual Cruisin Sherwood and the Annual Golf Tournament.  Renee is a skilled facilitator and leadership development consultant.  When she is not working, or volunteering she is often leading workshops such as Strategic Planning, DEI, Project Management, Team Building, Coaching and more.  She also likes being outdoors and spending time with her family especially her new grandson, Kaison.

Renee is also the President of the Sherwood Police Foundation, a Foundation that was created to help support the local police department.  Renee is solution oriented which leads her to help find solutions to the homeless crisis and find ways to create equitable communities.

While in high school Renee was voted most likely to go into politics, that dream came true when she ran for and won a seat on City Council in 2015.

What People are Saying

"I first met Renee as a YMCA Recreation Director in Sherwood and now serving at the Good Neighbor Center in Tigard as the Executive Director. Renee is a trustworthy and dedicated person who cares deeply about her community and people she serves. She brings a wealth of leadership experience and knowledge for healthy community building and those in need. I whole heartedly endorse Renee for another term on city council."

- Marc Woodard Former Tigard City Councilor

“It is with extreme honor that I am writing this letter of recommendation for Renee Brouse to retain her position on the Sherwood City Council.  I have had the privilege of calling her friend for many years, watching her serve the Sherwood community in many ways and on several projects.  Even though I do not actually live within the city limits of Sherwood, I have witnessed her committing her time to many community events.  One of her passions was that she and her husband, Rob, spent many hours helping the homeless on Sundays getting showers and doing their laundry. She has been incredibly involved and works extremely hard to find ways to evaluate and help plan improvements for Sherwood and the preservation of Old Town Sherwood as well, especially with the growth that Sherwood is experiencing.  Renee has become the Council Liaison to many committees and groups around town and is a huge asset to those committees.  She has also been involved with and on the board for the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce, holding offices including the President along with many other boards that she has served.  She practices the Chamber motto as she is a huge supporter of Sherwood businesses, especially during these trying times. I have had the pleasure of serving with Renee on the Sherwood Police Foundation Board, where she is currently holding the office of President and the Committee Chair for the Boots and Bling Gala, which is our largest fundraiser for the Sherwood Police Department. Renee is just a truly dedicated and enthusiastic person which makes her an outstanding City Council member and it would benefit Sherwood to keep her in this role. ”

- Lynn Haynes, Sherwood Resident and Board Member Sherwood Police Foundation

“As a resident of Sherwood, I strongly endorse Renee Brouse for re-election to the Sherwood City Council.  Renee is a dedicated public servant who has always operated as a fair, committed and focused member of City Council.  Renee recognizes that community involvement is essential for getting things done in order to build a safe and prosperous Sherwood.  She is willing to ask the tough questions and work with the citizens of Sherwood to put our community’s needs first.  Her selfless commitment in helping to grow the city in a fiscally smart and effective manner is a testament to her leadership abilities.  Renee has the experience and vision to help continue the growth and prosperity that Sherwood is currently experiencing in a manner that we can all be proud of.  For these reasons, Renee has my full support for Sherwood City Council. ”

— Laurie Holm Former Sherwood Planning Commissioner and Board Member Sherwood Police Foundation

“I have known Renee for many years and have had the pleasure and honor to work with her on City Council, Sherwood Family YMCA, and initiatives through Rotary International, Girl Scouts, and many others.  She is considerate of all aspects of issues affecting our community, she is thoughtful and fair in her deliberations, and she seeks consensus among her peers. What you will recognize in Renee’ is that her character and integrity are strong, and you will always get an honest well-considered opinion from Renee!  What you won’t see from Renee are the incredible number of hours she puts in behind the scenes to develop real solutions for problems of money, health, shelter, and food that plague homeless families. “

- Jennifer Casler Kuiper - Sherwood City Councilor 2014-2019

“It is with great pleasure that I endorse Councilor Renee Brouse for re-election to Sherwood City Council. During my time working with Renee on the Council, I have found her to be a dedicated and tireless advocate for the community and people of Sherwood, and particularly for those who have historically not been as well represented.  Councilor Brouse's passion for people and love for this community is only surpassed by her humility, grace, and positive demeanor.  She is easy to work with and brings unique and important perspectives to the council. I encourage you all to return Renee Brouse to Sherwood City Council where she can continue to serve the people of this city to the fullest.”

- Doug Scott - Sherwood City Council

 Re-elect Renee Brouse!

“I have attended Sherwood City Council meetings for several years and have a pretty good idea who stands out as a public servant. Watching and listening, there is no doubt that Renee Brouse is a dedicated councilor with a servant’s heart when it comes to making decisions for the citizens of Sherwood.  Her work life as Executive Director at Good Neighbor Center serving those in our area who need help and her traveling regularly to Colombia, South America to serve the people there speak to who she is and what her values are.  She is quick to grasp issues and confident in making decisions.  What more could Sherwood ask for. Please support Renee and vote for her to continue to serve as our elected councilor. We need her compassion and decision making.

Check the box! Re-elect Renee.”

- Nancy J Ellingson - Sherwood Resident and Community Volunteer

“Renee brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to governance on the Sherwood City Council. Her commitment to serving this community is evident in everything she does. I have served on City Council with Renee for two and a half years; I appreciate the leadership, wisdom, and experience that she brings; as we work together for the community of Sherwood. “

- Tim Rosener - Sherwood City Council President
